All That Glitters

I have been trying to make more room for photography this year and have had a number of friends getting in on my goal by asking me to do some stuff for them. Getting to be known as "The Photographer" by friends is flattering, but sometimes I have to laugh to myself that the title also comes with the" responsibility" of taking any and all photos that need to be done (from new babies and family gatherings, to group shots for parties you happen to be at, to random photos for insurance claims, etc.). Not that I mind really, it just strikes me as a funny phenomena.
Anyway, this photo falls into the above category; this lovely friend wanted photos in her much loved party dress, so came over for a few quick shots. This shot had a very strong flare from my light running across the middle, and I was inspired to go a little wild with texture to create this glittery, girly, portrait.

Canvas Prints

It was so cool to open up my zazzle order (a good break from doing taxes I might add.) today! I wanted to squeal and do a happy dance seeing my babies all big and in print. Canvas really works well with the still life images, they really do end up looking like a painting (which genuinely amazes me.). My Mom bought one and the other two I hope to sell here in town, or be part of the submission to a gallery in Milwaukee. (Zazzle had a good deal going, 60% off! I've been wanting to get some prints like this for a while, so too good a sale to pass up.) 

 

Vegetable Texture

Something a little bit different, a still life in Black and White. I come back to this mono coloring for food every once in a while, it is an interesting change I think; and I like how the lack of color can highlight the textures and shapes we sometimes take for granted in color. The funny part about this shot is that this is what I had in the fridge, not quite at it's best for sure, but from a wide collection of dishes.

*Cabbage - Kielbasa & Cabbage

*Peppers-Part of a veggie tray for movie night.

*Swiss Chard-Mizutaki (A Japanese Veggie/Chicken soup)

*Cauliflower-This is either going to be Cauliflower Steaks for dinner or Aloo Gobi, I haven't decided yet.

*Thyme-Been in there so long I can't remember what it is from (don't tell.).

New Baby

One of my girl friends just had her second child this last month, I was going over to help clean house, or whatever it is that a new mama would need, and my friend asked if I would bring my camera along for birth announcement pics. Seeing as I try not to pass up an opportunity to take pictures of cute things, like a 10 day old baby, I had to oblige. 

 

 And of course the new big sister had to get in on things too.
